SAGEBURG COUNTY AND HENSCHKE GET US OFF TO A FLYING START!
SAGEBURG COUNTY WINS
Sageburg County gave us our first winner of the 2024/2024 Season on Friday at Market Rasen by making the perfect start over fences!
This stunning son of Sageburg ran some very nice races as a Novice Hurdler last season, but we knew we would see him at his best over the larger obstacles, and he certainly did not disappoint!
Sageburg County travelled and jumped in an eye catching fashion throughout the race, making his way through the field, hitting the front 3 fences from home, and going on to win by 3 lengths full of running! He was given a lovely ride by Dylan, who has done all the schooling on him at home and done a great job!
It was great to get a winner on the board for loyal owners Alan and Andrew Turner, who some of you will remember owned Missed Approach when he won the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2018. They look to have another smart one on their hands!
Sageburg County can now go out to enjoy his summer holiday and we look forward to seeing him back in action in the Autumn.
HENSCHKE WINS
We didn’t have to wait long for our second winner of the new season, as Henschke put in a brilliant performance at Plumpton on Sunday to win for the second time over fences! Henschke won as a first season Novice over fences at the end of January this year, but then had a couple of disappointing runs when conditions weren’t quite to his liking. He bounced back last time out though with a much better run and we were fully expecting him to back up that return to form, which, very happily, he did!
Jonjo O’Neill Jnr was riding this time, and got Henschke jumping quick and confident in what was a strongly run race, and it was Henschke’s stamina that saw him stay on after coming off the bridle 3 fences from home, and coming home in front by one and three quarter lengths.
Great to see Tracy Brown’s colours in the Winners’ Enclosure again, and even better that it was at her local track! Biz, who works for Tracy and has looked after Henschke since he was a youngster, was there to see him win, and was over the moon! Even better for Henschke, he was dropped off at Tracy’s home on the way back from racing, so his summer holiday started immediately! Henschke has really gained in confidence since stepping up to fences, and there will be plenty to look forward to with him come the Autumn.
