GOOD AND CLEVER WINS ON RACECOURSE DEBUT
|
GOOD AND CLEVER put in a hugely impressive performance on racecourse debut to WIN The National Hunt Flat Race at Warwick on Sunday.
Bought by Warren and Tessa as a 3-year-old, it has taken until now, as a 5-year-old for Good And Clever to really grow into his big frame and be ready for the racecourse, and patience well and truly paid off! He took the whole day in his stride and behaved very professionally throughout..
The ground was grueling with Warwick having has plenty of rain throughout the previous evening and during the day, but Good And Clever relished the conditions. He traveled strongly throughout the race and took up the lead coming into the home turn, leaving the field struggling behind him. James Bowen sat quiet and with what seemed no effort at all, Good And Clever went further and further clear all the way up the home straight, and was eased down by James before the line to win readily by 12 lengths!
Huge congratulations to Good And Clever’s owners Velocity Racing NH, who all came to support their horse in the rain, and were rewarded with a fun and exciting day! Also well done to Esme who led Good And Clever up yesterday, and who has put an awful lot of hard work into this horse who she rides at home.

JUST ONE SURF WINS OVER HURDLES
Today we saw JUST ONE SURF head to Taunton Racecourse to run in the William Hill Maiden Hurdle over 2 miles. New to us this season, Just One Surf showed a lot of promise in his Bumper run, but has run a little bit below what we expected over Hurdles in his 2 runs so far… but all that changed today!
Just One Surf’s jumping is a real asset, he is quick and accurate and this allowed him to go through the race well and truly in his comfort zone under James Bowen. The pace lifted going into the home turn, and it looked as though Just One Surf might be outpaced for a few strides, but his stamina soon kicked in and James pressed on for home, taking up the lead into to the last Hurdle and staying on really strongly to win by 3 and a quarter lengths going away.
Just One Surf will have gained plenty of confidence from today’s run and we are sure to see him keep progressing now for the rest of the season and beyond. Well done to his owners Aura Racing, who are new to us this season and we are delighted to get our first win for them. Onwards and upwards!
